SIPI FALLS
The Sipi Falls area consists of three waterfalls and is located in eastern Uganda in the district of Kapchorwa, northeast of Mbale. The falls are located on the edge of the Mount Elgon National Park on the border with Kenya. The Sipi Falls and the Sipi River are named after the ‘Sep’, an indigenous plant on the banks of the river, a medicinal plant used by the locals against measles and the flu. The area is characterized by coffee plantations, rivers, waterfalls, chameleons, wild vegetation, traditional African villages and beautiful views of the Karamoja savannahs.
Because Sipi Falls is located at an altitude of 1600 meters, the climate is very pleasant during the day and therefore also an ideal place to relax with a book in one of the accommodations with a view of the Sipi waterfall. Sipi Falls is one of the most fertile areas of Uganda and is therefore incredibly green and lush, with many flowers and plant species, among which colorful chameleons hide. For travelers who have just a little more time to spend and would like to experience ‘the real’ Uganda, Sipi Falls is a fantastic stop in the little-visited East of Uganda!
