THE KARAMOJA REGION
The special Karamojong culture takes place in Northeast Uganda near Mount Moroto in the middle of Karamoja, an 8 to 10-hour drive from Kampala. The inhabitants of this vast and completely unexplored area are the Karamojong, a tribe affiliated with the Maasai in Kenya and Tanzania. Wild Heritage of Africa Tour and Travel offers travelers a unique insight into the authentic Karamoja culture.

A visit to the Karamoja region guarantees an authentic insight into an ancient culture. According to anthropological studies, the Karamojong migrated south from modern-day Ethiopia around 1600 BC. Together with the Turkana (Kenya), Iteso, Dodoth, Jie and other tribes, the Karamojong belongs to the ‘Karamajong kluster’ that stretches across northeastern Uganda and South Sudan. This colourful tribe has managed to preserve its cultural heritage, allowing tourists to experience this age-old way of life, traditions, games and dances without it feeling touristy.
