Prison Island
Prison Island is an uninhabited island off the coast of Zanzibar . It owes its name to the prison that was built to house rebellious slaves. However, the prison was never put into use and is now a turtle paradise to visit.
Prison Island is a 20-minute boat ride from Stone Town and offers spectacular coral reefs around the island. Giant tortoises prowl all over the island. Some of these turtles are native to the Comoros and Seychelles and are probably more than 100 years old.
