AKAGERA NATIONAL PARK
Akagera National Park is located in the North East of Rwanda along the border with Tanzania. Although founded in 1934, much of the park was re-allocated as farms and in 1997 the park was reduced in size from more than 2,500sq km (nearly 10% of the surface area of Rwanda) to its current extent of 1,122sq km.



It’s characterized by woodland, swamps, low mountains and savannah. The varied terrain shelters wildlife including zebras, giraffes, elephants, lions and hundreds of bird species, such as the rare shoebill stork. In the southern part of the park, vast Lake Ihema is home to hippos and crocodiles.

Wildlife SAFARI
Akagera National Park is blessed with a great number of wildlife, bird and plant species thus making it a great option for tourists interested in a game safari in Rwanda.


Bird watching
The park is a habitat to a number of bird species that can be seen within the swamps and the vegetation of the park where they est. their nests. The park is a home to over 400 bird species where you can see a number of water birds as well on the different water bodies in the looking for food.



Boat Cruises
The boat cruise will be around water bodies in the park like Lake Shakani, Lake Ihema and others where you will have amazing experiences. In boat cruise, you will see a number of bird species, for instance, water birds like the African Fish Eagle, African jacana, great cormorant, Americ dipper, and Billon’s crake among other bird species you will also see amphibian species like the Crocodiles hippos and buffalos will also be see swimming in the water.

CAMPING
In Akagera, there are four campsites, all of which offer basic facilities for overnight park stays, as well as wonderful wildlife experiences.
