WELCOME TO NYUNGWE NATIONAL PARK

Embark on an unforgettable 2-day journey to Nyungwe National Park, a lush rainforest teeming with biodiversity and breathtaking landscapes. This trip offers an exciting opportunity to experience the famous Canopy Walkway, where you’ll experience panoramic views of the forest from a 70-meter-high suspension bridge and spotting a variety of bird species.

After the canopy adventure, you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch before heading to Nyungwe Nziza Eco-Lodge in Kitabi, known for its stunning views of the forest and tea plantations.

On the second day, you’ll rise early for an exhilarating chimpanzee trekking experience, venturing deep into the rainforest to observe these fascinating primates in their natural habitat. After the trek, enjoy a leisurely lunch before heading back to Kigali. Along the way, you have the option to enhance your trip with visits to a coffee plantation, the National Museum in Huye or the King’s Palace in Nyanza, adding cultural and historical richness to your adventure.

Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali to Nyungwe – Canopy Walk Experience

Early Morning (5:00 AM – 10:30 AM):
• Depart from Kigali at 5:00 AM for a 5 to 6-hour drive to Nyungwe National Park.
• Arrive at the park reception by 10:30 AM.

Morning
• Canopy Walkway Experience
• Walk along a 160-meter-long suspension bridge, 70 meters above the rainforest.
• Enjoy stunning views of the forest, spot birds, and experience the biodiversity of Nyungwe.
• The experience takes around 2 hours, including a guided forest walk.

Afternoon
• Lunch at the Nyungwe National Park Coffee Shop.

OPTIONAL ( Tea Plantation Tour at Gisakura )

• After lunch, head to Nyungwe Nziza Eco-Lodge in Kitabi for check-in.

Late Afternoon
• Relax at the lodge and enjoy breathtaking views of the forest and tea plantations.
• Experience their campfire area in the evening while interacting with fellow travelers.

Evening:
• Dinner and overnight stay at Nyungwe Nziza Eco-Lodge.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking & Return to Kigali

Early Morning:
• Depart for Chimpanzee Trekking at Cyamudongo or Uwinka.
• The trek starts at 5:00 AM, and lasts 2-5 hours, depending on the chimpanzee location.
• Observe chimps in their natural habitat, hear their calls, and enjoy the rainforest environment.

Mid-Morning
• Return to the lodge, freshen up, and have lunch.

Afternoon:
• Drive back to Kigali with optional stopovers:
1. Coffee Plantation Experience – Learn about Rwanda’s coffee production, from harvest to cup.
2. National Museum in Huye – Explore Rwanda’s cultural heritage and history.
3. King’s Palace in Nyanza – Visit the historical royal residence of Rwandan kings.

Evening:
• Arrive in Kigali by late afternoon or evening.
