SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE

North of the Mount Kenya plateau are three contiguous reserves: Samburu National Reserve, Shaba Game Reserve and Buffalo Springs National Reserve. The area of the Samburu tribes forms the transition area from the fertile and green soil of Mount Kenya to the semi-desert-like north of Kenya. You can go on safari in Samburu National Reserve all year round and due to the high wildlife density, the low season months are at least as interesting.

Due to its remote location in northern Kenya, the area has a unique flora and fauna and you will find the beisa oryx (East African spearbuck), the beautiful grévy’s zebra and the geran (giraffe-gazelle) that plucks leaves from the trees on its hind legs. In addition to these special mammals, you will also encounter the bizarre vulture guinea fowl and the graceful Somali ostrich with its blue legs during the safari.
