TARANGIRE
NATIONAL PARK
Tarangire National Park is located in the north of Tanzania. The name of this park is derived from the Tarangire River which flows through this park. In dry times, this river is the lifeline for the wildlife in this area. The park is mainly known for its many elephant herds. The many elephants like to take advantage of the refreshment offered by the Tarangire River.



The park is best known for its many baobab trees and herds of elephants that can be seen in large numbers at the Tarangire River in the dry season between July and November. In the rainy season, the herds of elephants are more spread out throughout the park, but it is still common to meet hundreds of elephants. From several hills in the park you can see how vast and photogenic the views over the rolling landscape are. In addition to the Tarangire River, you will also encounter the Silale swamp here. This swamp is one of the highlights of this park’s ecosystem. The swamp acts as a giant sponge during the green season and slowly releases water during the dry season. Large quantities of game are attracted to the water supply, which also attracts many lions and leopards. In addition to the big game, the rock python can often be seen in the swamp. In short, beautiful nature in a national park that can be visited all year round.

Game Drives
Tarangire National Park is the sixth largest park in Tanzania. A relatively large national park, so several game drive routes are possible. In a full-day safari you will get an extensive impression of the park and it is common to encounter hundreds of elephants. Due to the gigantic size of the safari circuit, it is advisable to bring a packed lunch that can be enjoyed at one of the many picnic areas.

In the wildlife-rich region outside the park boundaries there are several beautiful safari accommodations. From these locations, local safari walks are offered. Get up before dawn to take a walk to Lake Burunge with a local Masai. This while you pass grazing zebras and wildebeest and watch the flamingos in the distance.
